General information
Herzliya
Herzliya - is situated in central Israel, near the Mediterranean Sea. It is a resort with fine beaches, as well as an important electronics center. It was founded in 1924 and named for Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism. Israel's largest film company is based there.
The town consists of two parts. The older part lies to the east of one of the large sandstone ridges, which lie between the Plain of Sharon and the coast. In ancient times a tunnel was cut through this ridge to allow water to drain away more easily into the sea and thus prevent the formation of marshes.
Loose fragments or grains, which have been worn away from rock accumulated over the centuries, were cleared and the mouth of the tunnel can be seen on the east side of the coast road. To the east of this junction is the old town center and to the west are the new districts above the beach.
We can offer you a selection to suite all tastes, of Hotels in Herzliya and also an unrivalled choice of Hotels in Israel.

Beit Rishonim - the Founders’ Museum focuses on the early days of Herzliya, through a variety of exhibits and audiovisual technology. The exhibits feature: a shack that symbolizes the beginning of settlement, a reconstructed room from the 1930s, a demonstration of the first work done in the colony, and a full size replica of a packing house for the citrus industry. A special section highlights the connection between Theodor Herzl’s dream and the colony bearing his name. One room depicts the development of the western area of Herzliya and the archaeological finds from Apollonia. There are also exhibits on culture and education in Herzliya, a library and a reading room.

The museum of Herzliya’s history, in one of the city’s original houses on Ha-Nadiv Street, documents the city’s growth. Near this museum is Herzliya Museum of Art, housed in the Yad le-Banim military memorial building on Wolfson St.

Tel Arshaf - is the site of the ancient port of Rishpon. The town was dedicated to Reshef, the Canaanite god of fire and fertility. The Greeks who settled here in the fourth century B.C. equated Reshef with Apollo and named the town Apollonia. In the seventh century the Arabs, who called it Arsuf, occupied the port. In the 12th century the Crusaders knew it as the castle of
Arsur. Richard Coeur de Lion defeated Saladin here in 1191. In 1265 the Mamelukes destroyed the town. Excavations from 1950 onwards brought to light various Roman buildings, including a theater.

West of the city is a Muslim holy site called Sidna Ali, which contains the tomb of Ali ibn Alil, a mosque and a number of buildings.
